Dream On! Where It All Began: How digital dreams became a permanent part of Prague

It all began in 2013 with a bold question: “What if Prague’s streets were transformed into a canvas for the world’s best audiovisual artists for a few nights?” At the time, it was just a daring dream, but thanks to the determination to simply take the plunge, a phenomenon was born that today defines Prague’s cultural landscape. The Dream On! exhibition at Signal Space now takes you on a journey to the roots, where an ambitious vision became the largest digital institution in the country.

From a bold experiment to a digital institution

Signal’s journey wasn’t just about street installations, but about constantly pushing boundaries. What began in 2013 as a tentative experiment has, over the course of fourteen years, evolved into the largest cultural event in the Czech Republic, attracting over 5.5 million visitors. But the story of the exhibition goes even further back. In 2010, Signal Creative first set Prague’s Astronomical Clock in motion. It was there that Signal’s DNA was born: combining historical settings with cutting-edge technology, artificial intelligence, and visionary creations.

Ludmila within reach and the power of Reflection

At the heart of the exhibition is a retrospective look at St. Ludmila’s Basilica, the festival’s most iconic venue. We returned to the basilica’s facade a total of eight times, with each projection pushing the boundaries of technical possibilities a little further. Visitors to the exhibition can revisit legendary moments - from the evolutionary abstractions of Onionlab, through the minimalist 3D game Bordos.ArtWorks, to the latest futuristic visions created using artificial intelligence, which demonstrate just how rapidly the world of digital art is transforming.

The entire exhibition is symbolically linked by the installation Reflection by Adam Cigler and Petr Vacek, which has successfully represented Czech digital art at festivals around the world. Reflection is not merely an object to be observed. It is a hypnotic space that reflects everything that Signal has been, is, and will be. Here, the viewer ceases to be a mere observer and becomes a direct part of the artwork. It is the moment when the boundary between technology and humanity is definitively blurred.

Dreams Change Cities

The Dream On! exhibition isn’t just a retrospective. It’s the first chapter of a story we’ll fully unfold in October 2026. The theme of the upcoming edition takes us into a world where reality and digital visions definitively merge. Because dreams change cities. And cities change the people who dream within them.

Come see the place where it all began. The exhibition "Dream On! Where It All Began" will be waiting for you at Signal Space.
